A Guide to Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) and Ketogenic Diets to Reverse Diabetes and Obesity (Diabesity)

Welcome to my low carb/keto blog! I hope you find it informative, helpful, and fun! My name is Jacki, and I will share with you the things I've learned—my successes, struggles, and triumphs along the way to my journey back to health!

BaconA New Definition of "Healthy Eating"!

On this site you will learn that you never have to starve again eating low calorie, low fat foods that never satisfy you—leaving you hungry and angry ("hangry"!) all the time and longing for MORE!! Eat REAL foods and lose weight, improve (or reverse) your Type II Diabetes, and much more! I'm just getting started on my posts, but I have tons to share and plan to add more content regularly, so be sure to subscribe! (You can subscribe by submitting the form at the right or bottom of the page.)

Since the "low fat movement" of the 1980s began, the rates of obesity and Type II Diabetes (even in CHILDREN—children NEVER used to have Type II Diabetes!!) has SKYROCKETED! So have other diseases related to glucose metabolism and lack of fat in the diet—such as ADD/ADHD, Alzheimer's, and other forms of dementia. THERE IS A REASON FOR THIS!! If eating low calorie/low fat was the answer, these conditions would have been greatly improved by this time (30+ years later!)—however, the opposite is true! Through my articles and resources I will show you what all I've learned over the past few years to reverse my own metabolic dysfunction!

Fasting Talk Episode 28Exciting News!

I recently had the privilege of being interviewed by Jimmy Moore for his Fasting Talk podcast! You can listen to it here!

My Passion!

You will quickly find that I am passionate about helping others learn about how eating a low carb high fat (LCHF) diet—also known as ketogenic—can help prevent or even REVERSE(!) these very serious health issues! Just a few of these are insulin resistance, Type II Diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and all the related conditions that accompany them. I have personally lost 105 lbs. so far! I have also turned my Type II Diabetes around—reducing my insulin requirements from over 400 units daily down to around 50 units daily, and lowering my A1C from 9.7 down to 5.5! My lipids (cholesterol panel) are all vastly improved and are now in the NORMAL range (WITHOUT medication!), and my doctors are amazed at my progress!

Many people today (possibly as many as 80% of the population in the United States and Canada) are already on what I call the "insulin resistance spectrum"—of which Type II Diabetes is the end game. But these people who are already affected may not even realize it, because they still have normal blood sugars and that's all most doctors look at! (NOTE: If you struggle with obesity, chances are you have insulin resistance and will continue to struggle unless you learn the real problem and how to reverse it!) These are the people I want to reach—as well as those who already know they have diabetes/insulin resistance (and/or obesity) and are desperately seeking help to improve their condition.

TurkeyWhy "It's Not the Turkey" – ?!

Of course, there's a story behind the name…!

In the Fall of 2016, I had added intermittent fasting (IF) to my usual routine of LCHF/Ketogenic way of eating and had seen some amazing results in weight loss, lowered blood sugars, less need for insulin, etc.! Thanksgiving was drawing near, and I really didn't want to derail my efforts since I was doing so well! I started thinking about who all would be at our table for Thanksgiving dinner, and I realized that out of the 14 people who were coming, only ONE did not have diabetes or insulin resistance (also known as pre-diabetes)!!

I started thinking about how we could make this a low carb Thanksgiving starting with the turkey (which is already low carb)… I contacted everyone who was coming and asked what they thought about having a low carb Thanksgiving meal, and everyone was on board! So that's what we did…

PiesWe had turkey, ham, cauli-mash (cauliflower mashed potatoes), green bean casserole (made with homemade cream of mushroom soup and all low-carb ingredients), my Grandma's mushroom gravy made with low-carb ingredients, greens (with bacon grease of course!), a low-carb dressing (stuffing), and I even made low-carb pumpkin pies for dessert, which everyone raved about! It was scrumptious!

After dinner, we were all sitting around talking, and I suddenly realized something strange was going on… I did not feel SLEEPY AT ALL!! I looked around the room, and everyone else also seemed alert and wide awake! I asked if anyone felt sleepy—and NO ONE DID! It was then that I realized it was all the carbohydrates we usually ate at Thanksgiving that made everyone so sleepy, because we had eaten plenty of turkey! (NOTE: There is simply not enough tryptophan in the amount of turkey we consume to cause all that sleepiness!)

Shortly after this, I was telling a friend about our experience, and when I got to the part about how everyone usually feels sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner, she said, "Oh, yeah, because of all that turkey!" I said, "It's NOT the turkey!!" and that's how this concept was born!

Also of major interest(!)… My blood sugar stayed in the normal range after that meal WITHOUT the need for my fast-acting insulin! AND I actually LOST 2 LBS. ON THANKSGIVING DAY! So it was totally worth it!

So these are some of the concepts I will be addressing on this site:

  • It's not the turkey… It's the carbs!

  • It's not the fat… It's the carbs!

  • It's not calories in vs. calories out… It's hyperinsulinemia (high insulin levels)

  • It's not "eat less, exercise more"… It's lowering insulin by lowering carbs

  • It's not a lack of willpower… It's the hormones (especially insulin)

  • It's not canola oil… It's BUTTER, baby!

  • It's not eating low fat or low calorie that is "healthy"… It's eating low carb HIGH fat!

  • It's not the high blood sugar… It's the high insulin!

  • It's not high cholesterol… It's high insulin/inflammation that causes heart disease

  • It's not obesity that causes Type II Diabetes/insulin resistance… It's Type II Diabetes/insulin resistance that causes obesity!

I hope you will join me on this journey towards reversing my own Type II Diabetes and Obesity (diabesity)! I also plan to take you on an organized educational path starting with how to begin and how to proceed to learn how to do this for yourself if you so choose! You can keep up with me by subscribing (see right column or bottom of the page).

Now, sit back, relax, and learn a better way to "eat healthy"!
